You are a man I never met, yet I speak your name every day. You are a part of my life like a relative, or someone who knows me maybe more than I know myself. I remember the first time I heard your exceptional music. I was lost, mesmerized, overwhelmed, scared, safe, and intrigued all at once. Since I was 15 years old, I have been devoted to you, toiled over you, and that I get to sing your music when I never thought I would is a gift to my existence. How could a man from Lucca, whom I never met, touch the life of a girl across the world, in Niagara Falls? As a devoted Canadian and artist, I have never sung or performed for accolades or awards, I sing because it is a part of my cellular structure, part of my soul’s need in order to live. To be recognized above and beyond that purpose is not only humbling but deeply felt. I am so blessed to make my entire career, academic and performance in music. It has been the constant in my life since I was a child and I will continue to study, protect, promote, and sing for as long as I can. Thank you to the @canadianchoiceaward for this unparalleled honour to be nominated. Vissi D’Arte per sempre.

A wonderful evening at the Rubies, Opera Canada’s awards. It was a very proud teacher moment watching my longtime student, friend, and family @teiyakasahara receive the Change Maker’s Award. There were many heartfelt tears of pride, love, support, understanding, faith, and hope for Teiya who is the bravest person I know. Tei, I’m not just proud of your singing, your dedication and hard work, I’m proud of who you are, for being unapologetically you in your entire self. I love you dearly and I will always always have your back. Per sempre! Was lovely to see so many wonderful artists and colleagues, but especially lovely to be with my mentor, Kim Barber, who looked especially stunning. My congratulations to all the recipients this evening and to @jhbaritone for his elegant and amusing manner as Master of Ceremonies, and to @operacanada for continuing to support all of us who devote our lives, every day, to this art that unites us and says that which cannot be spoken. I’m ecstatic to announce that Brazilian tenor @miguel_geraldi_tenor was called on short notice to make an auspicious debut as Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at the Teatro Municipal de Rio De Janeiro. Almost a decade ago, I had the pleasure to perform in that beautiful house and I wish I could be there to hear his voice fill that stunning theatre. Miguel, hai lavorato così tanto e ti meriti ogni successo perché sei un vero figlio d’arte. Non c’è nessuno su questa terra più orgoglioso da te. In bocca al lupo, gioia mia. Today is a watershed moment for me. Amidst my devotion to Puccini and my lifelong commitment to opera, I never imagined having the privilege to sing Floria Tosca. My score remained untouched until 3.5 months ago when Maestro Sabatino Vacca asked if I would sing her. I knew it would require all my spirit, my mind, my strength. I have prepared her with every fibre of my being and I can’t believe that today I’m attending my first rehearsal as Tosca. My heart could explode. I come to this on my knees in humility and with gratitude. I would like to thank from my heart Maestro Vacca for believing in me, the magical Kimberly Barber for giving me strength, tools, and wisdom vocally, emotionally, and physically; the exceptional Maestra Judith Yan for her incredible musicality and guidance, to Maestra Silvia Gasperini per la vostra immensa passione e per i direttivi dal Maestro Puccini; and to my dear friends for their unwavering support. My gratitude and love to Laura for being my rock and strength when I felt I had nothing left. To Maestro Puccini: la vostra magia e sapienza dell’umanità è e rimane universale. I had an exceptional experience on Monday evening at @blackframestudiosniagara where I was photographed by rising photographer Wes Keller. His eye and creativity are rare and I loved his energy and enthusiasm. The lovely Karen Robson was wonderful to work with and her visions made these shots become reality! Many photos taken. 4 years ago, today, I had no idea how my life would change in one afternoon. A drive to Guelph on a sunny day, just looking at puppies. The pandemic and many life situations had opened me up to the idea of getting a doggie. That afternoon, the cutest of 6 little 5 week old Morkies came and put his adorable little paw on my shoe and looked at me with that perfect little nose and huge eyes. I couldn’t leave there without him. That night, I watched him sleep all night thinking, “Omg, I’m responsible for this little guy and he’s so small.” I didn’t sleep for two months, making sure he had everything. All his Zia’s and Zio’s sent toys and understood my extra breaks, and little by little Spencer and I were inseparable. I might’ve saved him that day, but in truth he saved me. I can’t believe 4 years have flown by and I never tire of his cuteness and wit. The way he elegantly lifts one front paw when he’s smelling something important, how he guards the house from dreaded squirellies, how he thinks he’s the boss, car rides, his dreamland at the floral clock, and his absolute joy every time anyone comes in the door, especially Laura. It truly takes a village and I’m grateful to the Szabo family, Dr. June Mergl, Maria at @pamperedpups2022 and everyone who helps care for my little sweet boy. Aug 19 will always be special because it’s the day this sweet angel softened mommy’s heart. Amazing how an animal can change your life. Happy Gotcha Day Spencie!!! Mommy loves you so much and still can’t believe you’re mine every morning when I wake up to your big knowing eyes and puppy kisses.
